Judge Eve Marie Reilly | Democrat for Judge
Judge Reilly was born in Chicago and, with the exception of college, is a lifelong resident of Illinois. She attended college in Phoenix, Arizona and obtained a B.S. degree in 1992. Judge Reilly then attended the John Marshall Law School evening program while working as a law clerk for Patricia C. Bobb and Associates. She obtained her law degree and was admitted to the Illinois Bar in 1997.
After graduating from law school, Judge Reilly served over 17 years in the Cook County State's Attorney office, where she was responsible for prosecuting complex Appellate and Supreme Court cases, as well as numerous cases in the trial courts. As an Assistant State's Attorney from 2006 to 2012, Judge Reilly supervised Assistant State's Attorneys in the prosecution of criminal appeals before the Illinois Appellate and Supreme Courts. Judge Reilly is distinguished by the length and breadth of her legal experience at the trial and appellate levels in the State's Attorney's Office.
Judge Reilly was appointed by the Illinois Supreme Court to fill a judicial vacancy in August 2014. She has served with distinction as a member of our judiciary. Judge Reilly presided over traffic court cases until December of 2014, when she was transferred to a civil courtroom. Currently, Judge Reilly is assigned to the First Municipal Division, where she presides over civil jury trials.
As part of her appointment to the Cook County judiciary, Judge Eve Marie Reilly was found recommended by the Chicago Bar Association and all 11 individual members of the Bar Associations that make up the Alliance for Judicial Screening.
As a judge, Eve Marie Reilly has followed the same principles of fairness and integrity that she demonstrated as a successful Assistant State's Attorney, and these same principles will continue to guide her in her career as a Cook County Circuit Court Judge. When asked why she wanted to continue in public service as a member of the judiciary, Judge Reilly stated,
“The reason I seek this position is deeply rooted in who I am as a person. My father was the son of Irish immigrants who put himself through law school while working construction. A dedicated lawyer, he taught me the importance of justice, fairness and equality. My mother immigrated to Chicago from England and put herself through nursing school. She taught me kindness, patience, civility and empathy. These traits which my parents have instilled in me, combined with my life and professional experiences, have brought me to the point in my professional career where I want to serve on the judiciary. I believe I possess the ability to be fair and knowledgeable in the law."
Judge Reilly is a member of the Appellate Lawyers Association, the Chicago Bar Association, the Illinois Judges Association, Illinois State Bar Association, Northwest Suburban Bar Association, Irish Fellowship Club, Hellenic Bar Association, North Suburban Bar Association and the Women's Bar Association of Illinois. Additionally, Judge Reilly is a member of the Irish American Heritage Center.
Judge Reilly resides on the northwest side of Chicago with her husband, John, her three daughters, Reilly, Giovanna and Saoirse and their family dog. Her husband, a member of the Painters’ Union Local 607 for over a decade, is currently a member of the Federal Postal Union. Judge Reilly and her husband are Democrats and have lived in the 10th judicial subcircuit since 2006.
